Afghans, A Special Donation for Homeless Moving into Permanent Housing

Oh my...thought I had posted and counted all of Marsha M's afghans/lapghans; but found I still had a few pictures on my phone.  Scrolled through all the posts from the beginning of this year (as the date the photo's were taken was early January), and realized I had completely missed sharing these with you.  Love this color combination.  This afghan is worked side to side.  Colors will work well for a young male, or teen or adult woman, I think.
Another ghan worked side to side in what reminds me of beach colors.  Oh my, beach colors...as of the typing and scheduling of this post to publish it was only 12 degrees here, so the idea of beach colors sure puts a smile on my face.  The day I typed this post there were 31 days until spring; but because it's in que to be published; by the time you read this it's even less.  Now that should bring a smile to your face.  Come on Spring!  Teen or an adult woman will love this.

And the 3rd ghan is also worked side to side and I think these colors are perhaps dark enough to be suitable for a male or female?  So with these 3 ghans Marsha's count for the year 2021 is 10, and her count for the year 2020 was 30, yes....she donated 40 afghans.  If you read my first post some time back you might remember I wasn't sure if I could get them all in my car; but I did manage with bags in the back end, the back seat and on the floor in the back seat.

This donation was spread out because it took me some time to launder 40 afghans and lay them out to block.  I always ask you all to do that before sending them to me; but I agreed to do this, as she is a primary care giver and certainly needed a break.

Many thanks Marsha!

Crocheted Afghans for Homeless

Thank you Marsha M.  This is a continuation of the large number (I'm still not telling you the number, lol), of ghans/lapghans I picked up at her house awhile back.  If you've not been seeing them, or reading the posts, the short version is I'm chipping away at laundering and blocking them for her, as she's a primary care giver.  This one is actually shades of blue, not gray as it looks in the picture, but it was a cloudy day when this one was laid out to dry and even with the light on, the true color didn't come through.  It's a center square of sorts, but not the traditional granny type stitch, then as it widens, she moves into the granny style stitch.  Will make a nice childs ghan or lapghan, doesn't everyone like light blue?
Crocheted side to side.  What fun colors.  This might be with a bit lighter yarn as it's quite light weight.  Reminds me of sun, heat, and sky.
This style is very open and lazy and also light weight.  4 triangles perhaps?  Or maybe it's crocheted sorta in the round?
And six big granny squares joined and edged for this style.  Another fun color combination.  So....thus far Marsha had 30 that were counting in 2020, and these 4, plus the previous 3 gives her a total of 7 thus far in 2021, and her combined total of 37...........but no, I'm not done with laundering and blocking, so please keep checking back.

First Donation for 2021

More afghans from our friend, Marsha M.  You may remember my telling you I filled the car when I picked these up from her some time back and have been working through the pile to launder and block them.  So these 3 afghans begin our count for the new year, 2021.  This bright neon colored ghan is styled with 2 large center squares joined and then edged.  Some youngin will no doubt enjoy this.
This pretty blue and purple ghan is a shell pattern, light and airy and will appeal to a teenage girl or perhaps single woman as a lapghan.  Looks like the ocean to me.  AND thinking about the ocean right now in the middle of winter makes me smile.  AND did you notice sunshine coming through the window on the day I photographed this one.  This style lapghan/ghan is worked side to side.
Another granny square styled with smaller squares (15) and then edged.  These colors remind me of fall and leaf color, or perhaps the period when we all had harvest gold, burnt orange and or avocado green appliances.

I've kept you all guessing how many ghans/lapghans Marsha crocheted over these past couple of years.  Yes that's why the car was so full it was several years worth of her crocheting.  We ended 2020 with her count of 25 and so now she's at 28...pssss, but not done, so please do keep coming back and I will continue to launder and block, as she cares for her husband.

Our 2020 goal for afghans was 24 and we collected and donated 40, so did well with going over goal.  This years goal is 30, the average of our last 4 years.  So, let's see if we can match or exceed our new slightly higher goal.  3 down and 27 more to go.

Lapghan and Afghans for Homeless

AND, the count continues for afghans/lapghans crocheted and donated by our friend Marsha M.  I am still chipping away with laundering and blocking.  This will be the last bunch being counted this year.  This summering looking ghan is crocheted side to side.  What a pretty color combination.
This big center square granny is similar colors as above, but more pastel.  These two are obviously very much suited to the ladies/teens.
A variation on the ripple style, crocheted side to side.  Another more lacy/open stitched pastel in colors for the ladies.

Here's one that will work for a male, almost camo-ish crocheted in the center square design.

AND this one will work nicely for the younger set, both is size and color.  Looks like a Kaleidoscope to me.  This granny design is started with a dozen smaller squares stitch/crocheted together and then edged.

**This brings Marsha M's count to 30.....so far.  I won't get anymore of her donation ready till next year, so please keep check in.

Afghans for Homeless Families Foundation

Guess who's donation this is.....come on guess.  If you've been following for the last couple of weeks, you probably have already figured it out.  This donation is from our friend Marsha M.  As you know, I am working my way through her donation getting them all laundered and blocked, but can only do so many at a time in the wash......and now with Christmas decorations up, am more limited in my space to dry and block them.    Marsha is the primary care giver for her husband and so just simply didn't have the ability to launder them.   Can't remember if I mentioned that before.    This primarily blue afghan is made with for smaller squares in the center.  I like the look, and the colors in this one.
This is single big square with changing colors frequently.  With the pinks and reds, think ladies will enjoy this one.
This one sorta looks like a sunburst to me.  How about you?  Bright and cheery, another one ladies will enjoy.  Or perhaps a young teen?  Again, the center square style.
Primarily gray, worked side to side, so perhaps better suited for a male?   Though the pastels perhaps not?
This is a small one that speaks to me like a box of crayons and is truly suited for a younger, male or female.  Love this color combination and know some little person will be thrilled to wrap up in this.  Could also do well as a lapghan, size wise.

Normally I ask folks to launder and block themselves, but this is a different situation.  So bear with me as I work my way through her donation.  It's several years worth.  This brings her total thus far to #25, but........do keep coming back; because there are more.  Some will not make it into our totals for this year of 2020, and will start our 2021 totals.

Many thanks Marsha, keep up the good work!

Hope you all are staying safe, and hopefully some of you will be getting the vaccine in the near future.

More Afghans and Lapghans Donated to Homeless Families Foundation and Those in Need

AND...look what we've got here!  The next installment of Marsha M's afghans/lapghans.  This first one is crocheted side to side.  Nice and solid stitches.  What a fun mix of colors.  I am a bit limited in that I can only laundered 3 or 4 at a time and have room to spread them out to dry and block.  So this one is hanging over the side of the bed, which is why you can't see the end on the left.  Believe this is straight forward single crochets.  This stitch makes the afghan nice and warm because there are no holes.  Nice lapghan size, and the colors nice for a woman or a teen, I believe.
This second one is the big continuous granny square style.  I'm particularly fond of this color combination, as I've always like blue and green together.  I think since this is a bit darker, this one will work nicely for a male or female.
The 3rd one I think is ok for both male or female as well.  What do you think?  Again the one big granny style afghan with a fun mix of bright colors.
Bright and cherry, 6 large granny squares put together makes this afghan about the size of a twin I think, though I have it laying on a queen here; it's a nice size.  Definitely colors for a woman.  Through my SIL, this ghan was directed to someone who recently lost their home due to a fire.  What a terrible time to become homeless.  I'm sure this young woman will be comforted by this pretty afghan.
AND....this big granny will work well for male or female, I think...don't you.  It looks rather patriotic, with a slightly different red, white and blue theme.

Many thanks Marsha M.  This brings us to #20 so far.......so please keep coming back folks to see what's in store.  This donation puts us over the goal for year which is very exciting.  Though some probably won't be processed and counted until early next year.  Now with Christmas decorations up, I've lost some space to lay things out to dry/block.

When I made deliveries the other day to Homeless Families Foundation, my car was really loaded.  Chad, my contact there was thrilled to see so many afghans and loaded bags of hats, scarves etc.  So please know folks how well received our donations are.  You truly make a difference.

Keep up the good work Marsha!!

Afghans Galore for Homeless Families Foundation, and Those in Need

AND, drum roll...told you to stay tuned; so hope you continue to do so.  Here's another round of Marsha M's afghans/lapghans.  This first one is a mix of colors, sorta pastel, but separated by black so good contrast.  It's The big granny square style.
AND, this one is another of the big square granny style, except that if you look closely, you'll see it was started not with one granny, but 4, for a slightly different look.  Lots of bright colors in this one.
AND this one, looks very different to me, even though it's the big granny square style, because it has a color theme to it.  I really like this combination.
And, for a bit of variety this is not a granny style; but a side to side design, with nice solid stitches.  LOVE the graduation of color in this.  These colors will work well for a male or female, in my opinion.
One more granny squares, but made of 20 squares and then edged with multiple rows. This one focuses on just a few colors, but primarily green. So this one should also be good for male or female.  It's fun seeing all the variety Marsha comes up with.

In this group, I think I'm partial to the non granny because the stitches are so nice and solid and the way color moves, it doesn't really seemed striped to me.

How bout you?  Do you have a favorite in this group?  This takes us to 15 so far....and again...I'm telling you how many more she has; so keep visiting to see.

Many thanks Marsha, please keep up the good work.  As I continue to launder and block them, I'll be posting more.

**AND with this donation we have officially met our goal, that's exciting.  Check the graph.

Lapghans, and Afghans for the Homeless

AND...drum roll please.  We have more granny style afghans/lapghans from our our friend Marsha M.  If you missed the previous post, please scroll back to see her previous 5 ghans/lapghans.  This is one big continuous granny square with lots of different colors.  I mentioned previously that I picked up a bunch, but am not sharing how many she made....She's been busy the last couple of years and we don't live that far apart, so I picked up the ghans from her and am getting them laundered and blocked.
These afghans and lapghans get spread out around the house to dry/block after they get a bath, lol.  This 2nd afghan is 20 smaller squares joined and then multiple rows of edging, so a bit of a different style granny square.  Granny squares are so versatile.  I live the monochromatic style color scheme going on with this one.
And this one, while lots of colors is fairly pastel.  Another of the one big square style granny's.
This is another one big square style, but with a bit of a different flare due to the border.
Not a granny style, crocheted edge to edge.  I think this one is my favorite of this group.  It's so bold and I love the mix of colors in this one.  What do you think?  Do you have a favorite?

The previous post shows 5, so Marsha's current count is 10 ghans/lapghans.  Stay curious and keep coming back to help me count.  Nod nod, wink wink.

Stay warm, stay health, and stay safe all.

Marsha many thanks for your donation, please keep up the good.

5 Afghans and Counting, for Ohio's Homeless

Thank you Marsha M for this generous donation of afghans and lapghans.  As you can see, Marsha has been very very busy.  She's been working on these ghans for a good long while.  I picked up a full car load from her.  Seriously, a full car load.  Not going to tell you yet how many.  Will be sharing them with you and counting them as I get them laundered and blocked.  These pictures are in fact as they are laying about the house drying and being blocked.  This large granny square has a center block and works out from there.  Please click to enlarge so you can see all the colors.
AND this one is such a fun bright variegated yarn.  Some teen or adult woman is going to love this color.  It reminds me of roses, which also reminds me of summer and warmer weather.  Which I wish we were currently having, but we are not.  Thus far, we've had one snow that stayed for 2 days before melting.  Hopefully it will stay away for awhile.
AND, this one is very Patriot with it's red, white and blue.  Rather than a single large square, this is made from 6 good size squares and is large enough for a nice family ghan.
But, don't go away.  We're not done.  I have more of Marsha's work to share with you.  This 4th afghan is a bit more open, lighter and lacy style granny center square.  The colors are very very fall like and remind of falling leaves.
AND this, afghan/lapghan #5, hello Halloween.  This is another center square style granny square afghan/lapghan.  Hoping a family with some children get this one because it really reminds of Halloween, and children so love Halloween.

What a fun variety of colors.  I hope you enjoyed seeing them as much as I did.  But, remember...do come back, cause there's more and I'm telling you how many more.  You have to come to find out.

Many thanks Marsha and please keep up the good work.  Stay warm and stay safe and healthy all.

Thank you Marsha M! Donated Crocheted Afghans Galore

By now, you surely must know who's hook these big granny square afghans are from.  Unless it's your first trip to this blog, Bridge and Beyond.  Marsha M must be the fastest crocheter in the world!!  She hand delivered bags of these lovely, cheery afghans/lapghans to my house.  I've opened each bag, photographed and edited lots of photo's of her work.
Each afghan/lapghan was received with great enthusiasm at Homeless Families Foundation where they were all delivered.  In fact, they were all delivered before you got to see them all and read about them all here on the blog.  I honestly don't think Marsha missed a color when you go back and look at each one.
Some are similar in colors, and yet each one is truly and totally unique.  Some have a dominate color theme, others are mingled every few row.  I've had fun looking at them all, and know you have as well.  I'm thrilled beyond words at how Marsha's donation brought our numbers so close to last years mark...and still we have some time left, so please do keep checking in folks to see how close we get.

If I could pick a favorite in this group, perhaps it would be the first one.  What about you?

**To match last years donation totals, we need 164 more scarves, as of today...there's 20 physical days left in the year, so we would need a donation of 8.2 scarves per day to make it.  How close will we get? AND 180 hats which is 9 per day.  Anyone want to make a wager?  AND look how close we are to our Afghan total!

Hats, Scarves and Lapghan Donated to the Homeless

Drum roll please, got some goodies to share with you again.  A fun warm afghan/lapghan.  The center looks like bright sunshine to me with the blues and greens, oranges etc.  Lots of primary colors here and more!!
Guess who's been busy with her crochet hook?  Guess, lol.  Do you recognize the style?  Bet you do, this crocheted granny square afghan/lapghan comes from the smoking hot crochet hook that belongs to our friend Marsha M.  I love this color combination.  Looks so bright and cheery and sorta Christmasy.
AND for some more variety, our friend Marsha M has included hats and a scarf.  Love the variety of colors in the hats.  Warm heads are happy heads.

Oh, this purple one, what female wouldn't love this one!!  I'm trying hard to pick a favorite from this group and it's a real toss up....hum, maybe the purple, it looks so peaceful and restful.........then again the red and green.  Oh my, it's hard, but I think I'll go with the purple.  How bout you?  As always, I remind you to click to enlarge so you can see details of any of the pictures here on Bridge and Beyond.  It helps you truly admire the hard work that goes into our big hearted crafters donations.

AND........wow, look how our numbers toward our goal are improving.

Many many thanks Marsha, please please keep up the good work.

Crocheted Afghans and Lapghans such a Wonderful Donation

Gold and green crocheted stitches from our good friend and speedy crocheter Marsha M, make this lovely afghan/lapghan.  I need to ask Marsha if she's going for the worlds record of faster crocheter.
Then there's awesome blue one~!  WOW  Everyone likes blue.  This will work for men or woman.  Truly fantastic.
Doesn't this one look patriotic?  I am convinced now, this woman truly must not sleep, or eat!  She's making so many people happy with these warm, cheery afghans/lapghans.  Marsha, you're a marvel.

AND ...drum roll there's more.  I encourage you all to scroll back to yesterday to see 3 others she made.  Well....really scroll back 2 or 3 pages worth.  I know you'll be as impressed with the number of people she's warmed as I am.

Keep up the good work Marsha.  Many thanks.  I think the Blue one is my favorite in this group...how bout you?

Look how close we're getting with our goal for afghans for the year?

Where are You and Your Yarn From?

I'm trying to identify where everyone is from, partially for fun. Take a look at the map. Also, believe it will aid me in cases where we have several people with the same name. Please look at the lists of bloggers and non bloggers and see if I have the state you hail from. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Additionally, we've had help from Scotland, England, Germany Puerto Rico, Canada, and France! They don't appear on the map, but their help is still greatly appreciated.
